Preface: This Redditor declared we can never be 100% sure of anything.

If so, then they cannot be sure of that.

Discussion

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

Yes we can never be sure 100% of anything.

------------------------------------------------------------

Additional_Goose_556:

Yes we can never be sure 100% of anything.

Can you be 100% sure of that?

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

Nah. I can't. But we can't be 100% sure about that either

------------------------------------------------------------

Additional_Goose_556:

Nah. I can't. But we can't be 100% sure about that either

But according to you, you aren't 100% sure about what you are now affirming, either. So why are you stating it as if you are 100% sure?

You say you can't, but you aren't 100% sure if you can't, so why do you say you can't?

Also, since you aren't 100% sure, why are you claiming others can't be 100% sure?

It is a self refuting statement.

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

It's paradoxical. But I should have realized that when I wrote that sentence

------------------------------------------------------------

Additional_Goose_556:

It's paradoxical. But I should have realized that when I wrote that sentence

Why do you say it's paradoxical when you're not 100% sure that it's paradoxical?

Why do you say you should have 'realized' it when you wrote that sentence, when you aren't 100% sure if you should have? and which sentence are you referring to exactly? Also, why do you even claim you wrote a sentence when you aren't 100% sure if you wrote it or not? Shouldn't you say you are unsure if you wrote a sentence?

What do you mean by 'its paradoxical'? Do you mean that it is a "self-contradictory statement that at first seems true"? If so, then which statement is paradoxical?

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

I mean, these words in reading could be a figment of my imagination and I could be imagining this whole reality where Reddit, the universe as we (or should I say I) know it and everything else exists. This could be a dream, or a dream within a dream. I could be a dimensionless consciousness existing in an abstract plane. But on the whole, I can live my life assuming that from a list of probable outcomes and events, that this is pretty far down on the list and function and be productive in whatever system this is, and yet I can still entertain the idea improbable though it may be. Why, what's your point?

OK, you claim that these things are possible. But according to you, you aren't 100% sure if these things are possible. So why do you speak as if these things are certainly possible?

You say, "This could be a dream, or a dream within a dream." But you also say, "We can never be sure 100% of anything." So according to you, you are not 100% sure if this even could be a dream, nor that this could be a dream within a dream. But you say it as if you are 100% sure that it is a possibility. Why do you say it like that? Shouldn't you say, "I am unsure if this could be a dream, or a dream within a dream, and I am unsure if I am unsure of that"?

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

Then you could just nest it into " there's a possibility that there's a possibility". And it would go on forever, most likely.

// This is my point.

Could I? Would it most likely go on forever? According to you, you aren't 100% sure of those things.

So why do you say that like you are sure of it?

------------------------------------------------------------

Redditor1:

This comment thread is the perfect example.

------------------------------------------------------------

Additional_Goose_556:

This comment thread is the perfect example.

According to you, you aren't 100% sure that this comment thread is the perfect example. So why do you say it like you are 100% sure of it? Shouldn't you say, "I am unsure if this comment thread is the perfect example," or something similar that would express your uncertainty? You might be quite confusing to some people.

Also, perfect example of what? Perhaps you mean that this comment thread is a perfect example that it would indeed go on forever. Is this what you mean? If so, you haven't been "nesting it into an infinite regress" as you seem to talk about within this comment thread, so how is it a perfect example that it would happen?

//Yep, I wouldn't talk to me, neither.
