Pro Life, Anti Vaccine

...A quick analysis on Reddit.

There is a short video on Reddit of an independent reporter interviewing a man at an anti-abortion rally. The man was holding an anti-abortion sign and fighting for the pro-life position, meaning he was against abortion because of his high regard for life. Everyone in the video was respectful. The reporter asked two questions, and the pro-life guy answered both of them. As soon as the extreme mob of people at reddit got ahold of this video, they made an uproar against the pro-life guy in the reddit comment section. In this article, I will analyze what basically happened.

These people call the pro-life guy a hypocritical moron, make fun of him by insinuating he is on cocaine, and even make comments "thanking God" that pregnancy is not contagious - because this pro-life guy is 'extremely' stupid. There are thousands of comments on this Reddit thread. Here are just a few I saw immediately:

Redditor: "Someone should have aborted him."

Redditor: "When you have a low IQ, everything makes sense."

Redditor: "What a moron!"

Redditor: "If you could die from irony, he would be dead right now."

Redditor: "Wow. This guy is industrial grade stupid."

Wow, those are some industrial grade comments, and I found them easily. So, what exactly are these people talking about? What does the pro-life guy say?

Here is the complete dialog of the short video everyone was shown:

------------------------------------------------------------

Reporter: "What message would you have to women who are considering having an abortion?"

Pro-Life Guy: "When a woman becomes pregnant, there's two bodies there. It's not one - and it's not 'my body, my choice', it's 'care for the child'. There's adoption - there's other routes to go."

Reporter: "And what do you say to people out there that say they don't want to get the covid vaccine?"

Pro-Life Guy: "If the 'my body, my choice' works for abortion, why doesn't the same work for the vaccine? If it's my body, it should be my choice of whether or not I want to vaccinate."

------------------------------------------------------------

I think the pro-life ambassador did a great job. So what is the fuss about? He remained efficient even when he was 'put on the spot'I personally find that the pro-life guy showed more intelligence than the ones attacking him, so now I am convinced that even more people over at Reddit are plain dummies. But do not take my word for it. Think for yourself.

When asked about abortion, he acknowledged the popular 'my body, my choice' argument. He refuted this argument by establishing that abortion is not just about your body. There are two people involved in pregnancy. Already by his first response, I can see that this man's gears are working in his head. When asked an open-ended question, he refuted a popular argument relevant to the subject of the question. This is a sign he is active and aware of his surroundings on many counts.

Note he showed how the 'my body, my choice' principle is not relevant in the subject of abortion. Yet, he did not reject the principle itself - this is important for later.

So far, this is a clean, solid, simple answer, coming from the "ironic, industrial-grade moron who should have been aborted".

Then the subject was immediately changed on him as he was asked the vaccine question. So, the way I see it, he used this opportunity to attack a specific group of evil people, effectively extending his attack to reach even further depths. When asked about people refusing vaccines, he wasted no time turning the 'my body, my choice' argument against the radical pro-abortion pro-vaxxers. If it's 'my body, my choice' for the subject of abortion, then it's 'my body, my choice' for the subject of vaccines, he argues.

He was simply revealing the hypocrisy of pro-abortion-pro-vaccinators.

In fact, many people apply the 'my body, my choice' principle to abortion but refuse to apply it to vaccination. They say, "Abortions? My body, my choice! I should be able to have abortions! Destroy the fetus!" and at the same time, they say, "Covid? Forget the 'my body, my choice' principle! Everyone needs to put the covid vaccine into their bodies, immediately! Save the surrounding people!" That is an inconsistency. What happened to the 'my body, my choice' principle? Our pro-life guy just plainly and boldly revealed their hypocrisy after refuting them.

Some people object to the pro-life guy's argument with their assertion that vaccination is not just about one body, it is about multiple. They say, "the 'my body, my choice' principle does not apply to covid vaccination, because there are multiple bodies affected when you do not get the covid vaccine". I see a glaring problem with this objection. This objection assumes unvaccinated people give other people covid, which does not necessarily happen. Their argument is wrong every time an unvaccinated person does not give someone covid. It also uses an entirely different sense of 'affect' or 'manipulation' than our pro-life guy used. Abortion is strictly about the destruction of another body. Destruction of another body necessarily affects the 'other' body. A lack of vaccination is strictly a lack of adding something to your own body. A lack of adding something to your own body does not necessarily affect another body. So, abortion is not just about one body, and vaccination denial is only about one body.

Fortunately, some people on Reddit do see this issue for what it really is. Others are just not intelligent enough. It is like most people naturally gravitate toward the bandwagon that most others are on. Some of them may even be intending to mimic whatever popular comments they read for the sake of themselves becoming popular. They seem to not apply critical thought to the words they hear and read. It is like they just leave their brains on the bandwagon trail, shouting "I lost braincells listening to this pro-life guy!" as they all ride away in the sunset together.

You may not care about this, but these are the people you work with. These are the people you learn with. These may even be the people you eat with.
